Twin Pack means two complete models in one box, not one aircraft with two color schemes. The package from the British manufacturer Airfix contains a separate kit of the Eurofighter Typhoon FGR.4 and a separate kit of the Shorts Tucano T.1, both in 1:72 scale, together with instructions, a color scheme and decals. Both machines are captured in a striking all-black display finish with elements of the British flag and RAF roundels — side by side on a shelf they make an impressive pair. It is injection-molded plastic, and the skill level corresponds to the second Airfix grade, that is a build for slightly advanced modelers.
The pair in the box is no accident — it is the path of a British pilot in one box. The Shorts Tucano T.1 is a turboprop trainer on which RAF students learned the basics of flying for three decades; it stayed in service until its withdrawal in 2019. The Eurofighter Typhoon FGR.4 is, by contrast, the peak of that path: a modern multi-role combat fighter with a delta wing and canards, the backbone of today RAF fighter force. The particular Typhoon Blackjack was a display machine that appeared in the black scheme at British air shows in recent seasons — and it is exactly that finish for which this release is bought.
Black finishes are rewarding but uncompromising: they show every imperfection of the surface. It pays to sand the joints carefully, use a primer and spray the black with an airbrush in thin coats — a purely matte black tends to look dead, so try bringing it to life with a light touch of dark gray on the panels. Overcoat the area with gloss varnish under the decals so that they do not silver; the color stripes and the RAF markings are the main ornament here, so give them time and use a decal softener. Finally unify the surface with matte or satin varnish. Paint the landing gear bays and the cockpit before closing them in.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
