HEKI leaf granulate, dark green

Loose foliage from the German maker HEKI with particles in the shape of small leaves. Even a dark crown thus looks like foliage close up, not like colored foam. In a growth, dark green fills the role of shadow: it gives a crown depth where a lighter shade would flatten the area. That is precisely why it is handled differently from a base green and is seldom used on its own.

Use

• the inner and lower areas of the crowns of deciduous trees
• dark bushes and thickets by water and on north-facing slopes

• a first layer onto which lighter granulate is sprinkled

How to work with the foliage

Coat the framework of the tree with flock adhesive or diluted white glue and sprinkle the material from above over a dish placed underneath. Work from the bottom upwards and leave the dark granulate mainly where light would not reach in nature. Then sprinkle a lighter tone on top while the glue is still damp, or apply a second thin layer of glue. A dark crown on its own looks like a lump; only the difference between the layers turns it into a tree.

For modelers who work with light and shadow on trees, and for builders of scenes with dense vegetation. Dark leaf granulate also suits growth that is to hide the construction joints of a layout, because the eye notices them least in shadow. It is a loose material; do not inhale it and keep it out of the reach of children. The manufacturer marks its landscaping goods as unsuitable for children under fifteen.
