Fourteen finished model trees from the German maker HEKI, five to twelve centimeters tall. The seven-centimeter difference between the smallest and the largest piece matters here: growth in which young and mature trees stand side by side looks as though it grew over time, whereas a group of pieces all the same size gives away at once that it was bought in one go.
The trees are pushed into pre-drilled holes or glued by the foot of the trunk. Lay the whole set out dry first and look at it from the place you view the scene from. Taller pieces belong at the back and at the edge, lower ones at the front. With growth of mixed ages it pays to place the smallest trees at the margin where the forest spreads into open ground, because that is exactly where self-seeding happens.

Fourteen pieces in one box are enough for a whole field copse as well as a forest edge, so a scene can be planted up in one go. This is modeling material, not a toy.
