Twenty finished model trees from the German maker HEKI, seven to eighteen centimeters tall, with both conifers and broadleaf trees in the set. Mixed growth is more common in Central Europe than pure single-species woodland, so it is exactly the combination of both types that turns a model landscape into a landscape rather than a stage flat. The eleven-centimeter spread between the smallest and the largest piece adds grading by height.
The trees are pushed into pre-drilled holes or glued by the foot of the trunk. In mixed woodland it pays not to blend the species evenly: in nature conifers predominate on poorer and shadier ground, broadleaf trees on richer soils and at the margin. First lay all the pieces out dry and look at the group from a distance, and only then glue. Taller trees at the back, lower ones at the front.
For builders of layouts and dioramas with mixed woodland and for modelers planting up a larger area at one go. Twenty pieces also mean that the growth can be built in stages and still stay consistent. This is modeling material, not a toy. The manufacturer marks its scenery products as unsuitable for children under fifteen.
