Twenty-two finished model trees from the German maker HEKI, five to twelve centimeters tall, put together as a mixed forest. A number like this is no longer an accompaniment but a whole stand: twenty-two trees will plant up a slope, a field copse and the edge of a layout at one go and spare you adding to them later, which easily lets shades and sizes drift apart.
The trees are pushed into pre-drilled holes or glued by the foot of the trunk. With a number like this, plan the area out in advance: lay all the pieces out dry, look at the group from the place you view the layout from, and only then drill and glue. Taller trees belong at the back and at the edge, lower ones at the front. In a forest leave them standing close together and the ground beneath them almost bare.
