A single medium-sized conifer from the line of specimen trees. Twenty centimeters is a height that corresponds to a mature tree in the usual layout gauge and to a younger individual in the large gauges. The tree is supplied finished and foliated.
A model landscape is often built by buying a large box of small trees and filling the area with them. The result is continuous but uninteresting, because every piece is of the same class. A single more detailed tree in the foreground can shift the impression of a scene more than another fifty small trees in the background. That is why specimen trees are bought one at a time and placed with thought.
It suits layout builders and diorama modelers looking for one striking tree for the foreground. The maker is a German company whose small trees are built from an injection-molded plastic armature with hand-bent branches, so every piece has a slightly different outline. Do not weigh the crown down in storage, as crushed foliage is difficult to put right. Around the foot of the trunk add fine undergrowth and leaf litter; the transition between tree and ground decides whether the tree looks planted or merely stood on a surface.
