Sandstone Rock Foil 40 x 18 cm, 2

HEKI rock film, stratified rock, 40 x 18 cm

This is not a model or a kit but a material for building rock. The film carries the relief of sedimentary rock with horizontal strata and sharp fractures. The manufacturer lists it as a rock film with stratified stone, supplies it unpainted and leaves the color to the modeler. The package contains two sheets measuring 40 x 18 cm, together 0.144 m², which matches smaller faces, bridge abutments and cuttings. The film is not tied to a single scale, because the structure of the strata can be adapted by cutting as well as crumpling.

Use

• crumple the film firmly in both hands before working with it, which creates an irregular relief with new fractures
• it is fastened to the base with staples into wood or with a hot glue gun; apply the glue in spots, not over the whole area
• it is painted with a diluted black acrylic glaze that runs into the joints, and the excess is wiped off with a damp sponge
• apply a light stone shade with a brush only to the raised edges, and press a darker gray on lightly with a sponge
• cover the edges of rock faces with rubble, tufts and a fine scatter, so that the cut does not show

Who it is for

For modelers who want rock without casting plaster into molds. The work is quick and light, and the result stands up to a diorama being carried about. Two smaller sheets suit trying the method out and filling out additional areas; a whole rock face is reckoned to need the larger format.

Do not use paints containing solvents on the film; the manufacturer expressly rules them out, because they would attack the surface. Paints and glue are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
