A decal sheet in 1:48 scale devoted to the Curtiss P-40 fighters in versions B and E as they served under the Turkish flag. It is an accessory to a kit, not a model of the airplane: what you get are sheets with national insignia and markings, and you choose the plastic model itself according to your own preference.
The Curtiss P-40 was among the most widespread American fighters of the first half of the forties. The versions designated B and E differed mainly in engine, armament and details of the nose section, and they were built in large series. A number of machines went outside the US Army Air Forces under deliveries to the Allies, and some reached countries that stood aside from the fighting. In this period Turkey was building its air force from material of various origins, so types of both American and British provenance met there — and sets like these are a rewarding subject for modelers looking for a color scheme other than the usual American or British machines.
The P-40 has a conspicuously shaped nose and large leading-edge fairings, where decals often reach over the edge of a panel. Spray the surface with a gloss clear coat, therefore, and apply the individual motifs one at a time so that you have time to settle them. Around the national insignia on the wing it is better to put a little water with a drop of degreaser on before applying — the decal then slides more easily. Use decal softener sparingly and let it work; brushing at it easily damages the surface of the thin film. Once dry, seal it with a clear coat and only then do the panel lines and the patina, so that the decal does not lift.
