The Spitfire was among the types that, after the Second World War, spread far beyond the borders of the countries that developed them. Turkey took it into its armament at a period when its fighter arm was only preparing for the transition to jets, and the piston Spitfires thus filled the role of a transitional type. The basic airframe with its elliptical wing and a liquid-cooled V engine stayed the same as on the British machines, but the national insignia, the system of marking and the maintenance habits differed. It is precisely these differences that make Turkish Spitfires an interesting subject for a modeler, one that practically does not occur in ordinary kits.
With a set aimed at one country it pays to plan in advance how many machines from the sheet you will really build, and to be sparing with shared insignia accordingly. Cut the decals off with a small margin and never lift them out of the water with tweezers by the printing itself. Prepare the surface with a gloss clear coat, let a decal dry completely once settled and only then flatten the model. Store the unused parts of the sheet flat between paper so that they do not curl — decals last for years as long as damp and direct light do not reach them.
