An Emil with a ventral rack is offered by the 1:144 Messerschmitt Bf-109 E-7 (Hangar Edition), a kit for one machine with two schemes.
Responsibility details are not available.
The last production form of the 109 of the E series is told apart from its predecessors by the rack under the fuselage. The package contains the parts for one machine, a guide printed in color and a small sheet of decals from Cartograf production for a pair of documented aircraft.
The fundamental novelty was precisely the ventral rack: on it the pilot could hang a drop tank with a capacity of three hundred liters, or a bomb. The 109, hemmed in by its range, thereby gained a reach it had sorely lacked over England, and the version then found use mainly in the Balkans, in North Africa and on the Eastern Front. The armament consisted of a pair of machine guns above the engine and two MG FF wing cannons.
One set of markings belongs to the aircraft of Leutnant Paul Steindl of the staff of II./JG 54 from Romania in April 1941. The second covers a machine of III./ZG 1 deployed over the Soviet Union in May 1942.
The landing gear legs can be glued in either position, and for a flying installation a spinner without propeller blades is provided. The framing of the canopy is most easily managed in 1:144 scale with a thin strip of decal paper or with a very carefully guided brush. It makes sense to bring the seat and the instrument panel out with a dry brush before closing the fuselage up.
It is supplied as an unpainted set of parts. Paints, filler and glue are not included in the package.
