About product

What it is

A set of accessories for the exterior of a model of the Bristol Bulldog Mk.II in 1:48 scale. It is prepared for kits from Airfix and replaces or supplements parts on the surface of the model, that is where injection molded plastic cannot afford thin edges and fine shapes for production reasons.

The real subject

The Bristol Bulldog Mk.II is a British single-seat biplane fighter from the turn of the 1920s and 1930s, that is from the very end of the biplane era. In the Royal Air Force it was among the main fighter types of its day, and to this day it is a rewarding subject: the framework of struts and wires, the open cockpit and the striking colored squadron stripes give a model a character that later all-metal fighters do not have.

Building and painting tips

On a biplane the order of work is decisive. Plan out in advance what can be painted before the two wings are joined, because once they are glued a brush will struggle to get between the struts. Dry fit the accessory parts first and remove the original plastic detail carefully, so that the surrounding surface stays untouched. First check what material the parts are made of: plastic cement has no effect on anything other than polystyrene, and only super glue will hold the joint. Cut excess material off with a sharp blade a little away from the part and sand the remainder down, and wash and degrease the surface before painting. The specific procedure and the placement of the parts are given in the manufacturer's instructions.

Who it is for

For builders of interwar aircraft in 1:48 scale who want to take the Bulldog beyond the level of the kit. The kit, paints and glue are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.

The exterior of the model, that is the parts on the surface of the aircraft. The inside of the cockpit does not belong to it.

First check what material they are made of. Plastic cement has no effect on anything other than polystyrene and super glue is needed.

Paint as much as possible before the two wings are joined. Once they are glued, a brush will struggle to get between the struts.
