An injection-molded plastic kit of the twin-engine Douglas C-47 Skytrain transport and airborne aircraft in 1:144 scale from Roden. The model has finely engraved panel lines, a separately molded fuselage with the cargo door and clear parts for the cockpit. The box contains a decal sheet and instructions with a painting guide. It is a rewarding and not overly large model of one of the most famous aircraft in history.
The C-47 Skytrain was the military version of the successful Douglas DC-3 airliner. It was powered by two radial engines and became the workhorse of Allied aviation in the Second World War. It carried cargo and troops, towed gliders and above all dropped paratroopers, among other occasions during the Normandy landings, when the machines wore conspicuous black and white invasion stripes. Its reliability earned it the nickname Dakota, and it flew in civil and military service for decades after the war.
The small scale rewards careful blanking and filling of the fuselage joints and the wing leading edges. Mask the cockpit glazing before spraying. Glue the parts with liquid cement for plastic. Apply a primer and spray with an airbrush; both natural metal and an olive upper surface look effective. It is better to spray the invasion stripes through masks than to use decals. A fine panel wash will bring out the structure.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
