An injection-molded plastic model of the Soviet supersonic bomber Tupolev Tu-22M2 (NATO code name Backfire-B) in 1:144 scale from Litaki. It is a short-run form of a new tooling. The package is rich — besides the plastic parts it contains a photo-etched fret, masks and 3D-printed parts (among them hollowed-out engine exhaust nozzles). The model allows different wing sweep to be set (the outer part of the wing is movable) and offers a choice of weapons. The Tupolev Tu-22M is a Soviet supersonic bomber with a variable-sweep wing, intended above all as a carrier of heavy anti-ship and strike missiles. The M2 version is among the earlier production forms of the family. Thanks to the variable wing sweep it combined good takeoff behavior with high speed in flight. It was deployed with Soviet, and later other, air forces and naval aviation for strikes against surface targets and ground objects alike.
In the small 1:144 scale, precise work on the joints stands out. Glue the plastic parts with a liquid modeling cement for plastic, and the photo-etched and 3D-printed parts with super glue (cyanoacrylate); clean the 3D-printed parts first and protect your airways while sanding. Glue the glazing on only after the frames have been varnished. Apply a base (primer) before painting and spray the metallic and light surfaces with an airbrush in thin coats; bring out the panel lines with a fine wash.
