A set of self-adhesive masks meant for spraying the national crosses in the form used in the late period of the war. The subject is the Messerschmitt Bf 109G/K in the large 1:24 scale, where the markings are sizeable and any flaw is visible at first glance.

Why spray instead of using decals

A sprayed marking is part of the paint layer, so no step and no glossy edge is left on the surface and there is no risk of silvering over engraving. On a large model this shows most of all, because a decal several centimeters across settles over panel lines with difficulty. A sprayed cross can also be weathered, unified with clear coat and sanded just like the surrounding paint.

Procedure

• Stick the masks on only once the base color has dried through, and degrease the surface beforehand.
• Press the edges down with a toothpick or a soft tool, so that the paint does not creep underneath.
• Spray in several thin coats perpendicular to the edge of the mask, as a heavy coat soaks under the film.
• The order of colors and any intermediate steps for a multi-color marking are given in the manufacturer's instructions.
• Lift the mask off while the paint is freshly dry, with tweezers and at an angle, not straight up.
