About product

IAR-80A — 1:32 scale, made by Azur

An injection-molded plastic kit of the Romanian fighter IAR-80A in 1:32 scale from Azur. It is a short-run tooling complemented by a photo-etched sheet and resin parts; check the exact package contents and the number of decal options against the instruction sheet. Paints and glue are not included in the package.

The real subject

The IAR-80 was a fighter of home Romanian design that appeared at the end of the 1930s and ranked, for its day, among the modern all-metal low-wing monoplanes with retractable landing gear. The IAR-80A version carried heavier machine gun armament. The machines were used on the Eastern Front and in the defense of Romanian airspace. It was one of the few series-produced fighters of home design in this part of Europe, which makes it an interesting and less usual subject.

Building and painting tips

With a short-run kit it pays to clean up the parts first and dry-fit them; glue the photo-etched and resin additions with cyanoacrylate glue and the plastic with liquid cement for plastic. The Romanian schemes have bold camouflage and distinctive national markings, so we recommend an airbrush, a thin primer and masks for the canopy glazing. Deliberate gluing and patience will give a clean result.

Who the model is for

  • For anyone interested in less usual aircraft of the Second World War
  • For collectors of Romanian and Balkan air arms
  • For more experienced modelers, as this is a short-run tooling
  • For lovers of the large 1:32 scale

The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
