Two Mark 77 incendiary bombs in the Mod.2 version, cast in resin in 1:32 scale. Stores for American attack and fighter machines from Vietnam to modern conflicts.
Responsibility details are not available.
While the older series of incendiary tanks stayed tied to the Southeast Asia period, the Mark 77 remained in the stores of the US Navy and the Marine Corps considerably longer. It is a tank of roughly the five hundred pound weight class, again thin-walled, filled with thickened fuel, with two igniters at the ends of the body. Its use is documented both over Vietnam and during operations in the Persian Gulf.
The Mark 77 family went through several revisions which show on the outside in the arrangement of the filler openings, the shape of the suspension lugs and the detail of the end caps. The number after the abbreviation Mod tells these versions apart. Modelers come up against them mainly when building a particular machine from a photograph: swapping the version is one of the small things an expert notices at once.
There are two pieces in the box. The surface is smooth, without rivet texture, because a thin-walled tank does not even have one; what is interesting instead are the transitions between the cylindrical part and the rounded ends.
In color these tanks tend to be restrained: a light shade on the body set off by bands and lettering. That is exactly what the final impression rests on, so it pays to leave the surface a smooth enough base and not to oversand the edges.
