The long variant of the A/S32A-31A Mule tow tractor with the AS47A-1 GTE (GTCP-100) turbine unit in 1:35 scale.
Responsibility details are not available.
A jet engine needs a source of compressed air and electrical power to spin it up. On the flight deck and on a land base that is provided by a mobile gas turbine, and one of its widespread versions sits on the lengthened chassis of the A/S32A-31A tow tractor. The combination is described by the designation AS47A-1 GTE with the GTCP-100 unit: the vehicle tows the aircraft to the place assigned and helps spin its powerplant up right there.
This one differs from the shorter variant by the stretched frame on which the unit's housing with its exhaust and ducting sits behind the driver's station. The outline of the machine is markedly busier for it, and even in a large scene the vehicle is recognizable at first glance.
The 1:35 size goes with ground vehicles and figures, so the model combines without trouble with soldiers, ammunition crates and other equipment of the apron. It proves best to assemble the frame first, then fit the superstructure and paint by subassemblies - the lower part is hard to reach once glued together.
The unit tends to be far dirtier in service than the rest of the machine. Smoke stains above the exhaust, greasy smears around the filler necks and scuffed spots where the crew steps while working the panels are the details that push the final shading toward reality.
The same subject is also made in other sizes and in both frame lengths, so a bare tractor and its equipped counterpart can stand side by side in a scene.
