The ZTZ-99A2-140 version is a Chinese main battle tank fitted with an experimental gun of large caliber. The plastic kit in 1:35 scale holds, besides the frets, photo-etched sheet for fine elements such as the grilles and the brackets. The subject was released by the brand Zimi Model, which offers the same range under the name Toucan as well.
A gun of 125 millimeters caliber has accompanied Soviet and Chinese tanks for decades, but the growing resistance of present-day armor pushes designers toward a larger caliber. A barrel of 140 millimeters caliber means a longer and heavier round, a different autoloader and a more robust mounting in the turret. The machine with this gun was presented as a demonstration of the direction the domestic tank development may take.
A long barrel brings out every deviation from the axis, so it proves worthwhile to glue it on only once the turret has dried completely and to keep checking by eye from the rear. Photo-etched parts hold most reliably on super glue and are bent over a metal ruler. The surface is brought out by a dark wash into the engraved seams and a dry brush drawn along the edges.
