The broken version of the drum from the Italian brand Royal Model comes with the infill of the end torn out and the winding fallen apart. The diameter of 60 mm given in the name concerns the finished casting. While an intact drum comes across as order set aside, this piece says the opposite: somebody drove into it, something fell on it, or it simply lay around unnoticed for years behind the corner of a building.
Devastation can hardly be faked in a diorama by dirt alone. For a scene to come across as abandoned, there have to be objects in it with a genuinely disrupted shape, not merely with a darker coat of paint. A damaged drum does that work by itself and at the same time takes up no more room than an intact piece. It goes well with the debris of masonry, overturned barrels and tools scattered about.
Leave the damaged places a lighter tone than the surroundings, because a fresh break is always lighter than a weathered surface. Run a light gray glaze over the bare wood, let the hoops rust through and along the inner edge as well, and settle a little fine dust into the recesses. The broken-off pieces do not have to disappear; you may well leave them lying beside it as part of the mess.
The package contains the casting alone; nothing else is enclosed with it.
