Photo-etched engine deck screens for the Panther Ausf. A and Ausf. D in 1:35 scale swap coarse plastic relief for a fine metal mesh.
Responsibility details are not available.
This photo-etched set takes over from the coarsely cast plastic infills above the radiators and fans on the rear deck of the Panther medium tank. The metal fabric is incomparably thinner than injection-molded plastic, so the screen finally looks like a screen and offers a view into the hull. It is cut for the two earliest production versions, whose rear ends barely differ from each other.
The Panther, with the official designation Sd.Kfz. 171, was created as the German answer to the Soviet T-34 and went into action in the summer of 1943 at Kursk in the Ausf. D version. You recognize that one by the tall cylindrical commander's cupola and by the machine-gun port in the front armor covered by a hinged flap. The Ausf. A replaced it in the autumn of 1943 with a ball mount and a new cupola, but the arrangement of the engine deck stayed practically unchanged.
Cut the parts out of the fret with a sharp scalpel on a glass surface and level the burrs with a fine abrasive block. Degrease the metal with alcohol before painting and cover it with a primer, otherwise the finish will not hold. Dose the cyanoacrylate glue on a pin in tiny drops, as any excess shows under the mesh as a glossy stain.
The base model, paints and glue are not in the package.
