The G7117 workshop truck with a payload of 1.5 tons, 1:35 scale

A kit of the American workshop version of the G7117 truck with all-wheel drive. The set from the production of the MiniArt brand builds on injection-molded plastic, completes it with photo-etched parts and a decal sheet with several marking options. The most interesting part is the equipment of the cargo bed, that is, a built-in field workshop with tools, welding gas cylinders, a compressor, crates and drums, thanks to which the vehicle looks inhabited even without figures.

The real subject

The G7117 belonged to the family of trucks with a payload of one and a half tons and four-wheel drive that Chevrolet built for the American army. The workshop version served as a mobile service station and accompanied armored and motorized units right in the field, where it took care of minor repairs, welding and refueling. The hallmark of these vehicles was a winch on the front bumper. Vehicles from this range also reached other Allied armies and served for a long time after the war.

Building and painting tips

Build and paint the workshop equipment in groups away from the vehicle and only then seat it in the cargo bed, otherwise you will not reach some places with a brush. The frame and the drivetrain belong to the most intricate parts of the set and it pays to let them dry out thoroughly. Slightly lightened edge highlighting sits well on an olive base, and a dark oil wash will then suggest greasy traces around the tools. You will bring the drums and cylinders to life with differing shades so that the load does not look uniform.
