About product

GAZ-AAA Mod.1940 1:35 (MiniArt)

An injection-molded plastic kit of the Soviet truck GAZ-AAA in the Mod.1940 form, in 1:35 scale from MiniArt. The model captures the three-axle vehicle in a 6x4 layout with dual wheels on the rear axles. It is a typically richly broken down MiniArt kit with a high parts count and a photo-etched fret; the box contains clear parts and a decal sheet.

The real subject

The GAZ-AAA was a Soviet three-axle truck derived from an American Ford built under license. The six-wheeled 6x4 layout gave it better cross-country performance than two-axle types and it became one of the most widespread utility vehicles of the Red Army. It carried troops and cargo, served as the chassis for workshop and signals bodies and as the basis for a range of derived versions. The Mod.1940 form corresponds to the later production standard.

Building and painting tips

The high parts count and the photo-etch call for careful work and for dry test fitting. First assemble and paint the chassis, the engine and the interior of the cab. Glue the parts with a liquid modeling cement for plastic and the fine photo-etch with cyanoacrylate glue, then apply a primer. Shade the typical Soviet green with an airbrush; bring the wooden bed to life with wood shades. Bring the wheels, the fenders and the underside to life with washes and pigments for mud and dust effects.

Who the model is for

  • collectors of Soviet transport vehicles of the Second World War in 1:35 scale
  • anyone interested in trucks and in the basis for derived bodies
  • modelers with experience of more demanding kits with photo-etch
  • builders of dioramas with plenty of detail

The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
