This follow-up set extends the metal accessories for the Soviet heavy tank with the cast turret to the areas that the first package did not reach. The two parts are bought separately and together they cover the model far more thoroughly than either does alone. The set cannot be used without a plastic kit. The target kit is Trumpeter.
Rolled armor plate was a bottleneck in the Soviet plants and welding was demanding on skilled workers. A cast turret got around that problem: the mold gave the shape directly, the thickness could grow smoothly in the vulnerable places and production sped up. The surface of a casting, however, stayed rough, with traces of the mold and of grinding, which is a rewarding subject on a model for texturing with putty. Machines with this turret went into the fighting at Voronezh and into the defense of the Caucasus.
First finish the hull and the turret as whole assemblies, and only then fit the metal, otherwise you will break the fragile parts off while handling them. Choose tweezers with smooth jaws, as serrated ones leave marks in brass. A piece of wire bent into a hook makes applying the glue easier. Wipe any excess away with a cotton swab before it hardens, as once dry it can only be removed by sanding.
Neither the kit nor modeling chemicals are enclosed with the set.
