This casting in polyurethane resin from the Italian brand Royal Model is aimed at the front of the Lancia 3Ro heavy truck. It captures the version with a narrow, almost frameless radiator shell, of the kind carried by vehicles in North Africa and by examples put aside into civilian service. Injection-molded kits of this real subject tend to be fitted with the wide frame, so the replacement moves a finished vehicle to a different period of service.
Lancia of Turin supplied the 3Ro type to the Italian army from 1938. It was driven by a diesel engine, which among Italian vehicles of the time was far from the rule, and it was exactly its fuel economy that earned it a place at the head of supply columns in Africa and on the Eastern Front. The load-bearing frame also served as the basis of improvised self-propelled artillery, and a number of period photographs come from there.
Remove the grease from the surface with lukewarm soapy water, or the primer will not take. Separate the casting gate with a fine saw and level the mating surface on abrasive paper, so that the shell stands square to the longitudinal axis. Cyanoacrylate holds the joint. The ribbing comes out with a dark wash shade, which runs into the recesses, and with a fine dry brush along the edges.
The casting is supplied unpainted; paints and glue are not in the package.
