The photo-etched Park bench in 1:35 scale is a park bench in metal sheet, which the modeler bends and glues themselves.
Responsibility details are not available.
This street furniture from the Royal Model brand is etched from metal sheet. The parts are taken out of the fret, bent according to the instructions and joined into a bench of the kind that at this scale could only be cast with a markedly exaggerated thickness.
The cast-iron side frames of real benches are pierced and thin. A casting would have to be many times thicker than the real thing, whereas etched sheet matches it in both thickness and the definition of the ornament. The result therefore stands up even in a close-up photograph. The seat and the back are made up of strips that can be given a slight sag, so the finished piece does not look machine-made.
Make the bends over a sharp edge or in a bending tool, and never break them with your fingers, because the metal tires out at the fold. Cyanoacrylate glue in the smallest possible quantity holds the joints, as any excess is hard to sand. A degreased surface needs a primer meant for metal, otherwise the paint flakes off. Cast iron tended to be dark green or black, and the wooden slats brown with the grain pulled out; a final gentle rubbing of the edges will suggest years of service. It pays to paint the seat separately from the supporting frame and join the two only at the end, so that the shades of wood and metal do not mix.
The photo-etch is supplied flat, and it is only the modeler who gives it its shape.
