A plastic kit of the Soviet wheeled armored personnel carrier BTR-40 with its open hull. The model in 1:35 scale offers a well worked-out interior for the driver and the troops, an engine and transmission, leaf springs on the chassis, vinyl tires and photo-etched parts; the exact contents follow the particular release.
The BTR-40 was the first postwar Soviet wheeled armored personnel carrier, built on the chassis of the GAZ-63 truck with drive to all four wheels. It carried an infantry squad, served for reconnaissance and also as a command and signals vehicle, and it became the basis of a whole line of later Soviet carriers. The open hull made it easy for the crew to get out quickly. Closed and specialized versions were built as well, but this one captures the classic open carrier of the early Cold War.
An open hull means that the interior is visible - finish and paint it carefully before the upper parts close the model up. Glue the plastic with a liquid cement and the photo-etch with cyanoacrylate glue, and leave the tires separate. Apply a primer and spray with an airbrush; the typical green stands out after a wash in the seams and dust pigments on the chassis and the fenders. Degrease the vinyl tires before fitting them, otherwise the paint will not hold well on them.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
