A plastic kit of the Italian human torpedo S.L.C. in 1:35 scale from the manufacturer Italeri. The set contains two figures of the diver operators, a photo-etched fret and color instructions. According to the instructions two lengths of the front warhead of the torpedo can be chosen, so the model will serve well in a diorama too.
The S.L.C. (Siluro a Lenta Corsa), nicknamed Maiale (pig), was a slow guided torpedo on which two divers sat in breathing apparatus. The design was developed in the 1930s by Italian naval officers, and the craft was to place a detachable explosive warhead under the keel of an enemy ship. The most famous action took place in December 1941, when the operators in the harbor of Alexandria put two British battleships out of action for long months.
Decide on the warhead variant in advance. Glue the photo-etched parts with cyanoacrylate glue (super glue). Paint the body of the torpedo in dark naval shades and bring out the details finely. Bring the figures of the divers in their black suits to life with highlights and dry weathering, so that they look wet.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
