The conversion set 1:35 Sd.Kfz. 251/7 Ausf. D - Part 1 of resin and photo-etched metal turns a plastic half-track into the engineer form of late production. This is the first of a pair of partial packages.
Responsibility details are not available.
The package combines cast resin parts with photo-etched sheet and serves to modify a plastic model of the ordinary carrier into the engineer version. The second partial package of the same conversion is sold separately, so a modeler can lay out the extent of the modifications step by step.
The designation 251/7 belonged to the Pionierpanzerwagen, that is the vehicle of the engineer squads of the armored infantry. The identifying marks were the pairs of folding assault ramps carried along the sides of the hull, over which infantry crossed ditches and smaller watercourses. The crew also carried explosives, engineer tools and means for clearing mines. The Ausf. D form dates from 1943 and you recognize it by the simplified hull with one-piece sloped sides and without side vision ports. Vehicles of this type drove at the head of columns and their crews were among the hardest worked in the whole unit.
Before the build, wash the castings in lukewarm water with detergent, so that no mold release agent stays on the surface and the finish holds. The thin ramps call for a steady hand; offer them up dry and try how they sit in the brackets, and only then fix them with cyanoacrylate. Bend the metal parts over a hard edge, not with your fingers. Paint the inside of the hull before you start seating the ramps; later a hand will not get to it.
The set comes without paints and without glue.
