A street lighting pole with its lamp, cast in 1:35 scale as an accessory for dioramas with vehicles and figures. A lamp is one of the few objects that in a model reveal at once that a scene is set in a city and not somewhere out in a field. At the same time it gives a scene a vertical point around which a group of figures can be arranged.
The streets of European cities moved from gas lanterns to electric lamps gradually from the end of the nineteenth century, and the basic shape, a pole with a bracket arm and a shade, then held for long decades. During the war the lamps were painted black or fitted with a screen because of the blackout, while after liberation a lit lamp was among the first signs of ordinary life returning. Both are rewarding motifs on a diorama.
First check whether the pole is straight; a short bath in warm water will take a slight bend out of resin. Clean up the mating surfaces and glue them with cyanoacrylate glue, and apply the primer in a thin layer so that it does not flood the fine edges. The metal look is achieved with a darker primer, a gentle lightening of the edges and only a hint of rust at the foot of the pole.
The package contains only the casting itself, to be assembled and painted.
