The StuG IV assault gun in its late form, 1:35 – the opening part of a metal detail set from the brand Royal Model. Intended for the Tamiya kit.
Responsibility details are not available.
This fret opens the pair the brand released for the vehicle and concentrates on the external sheet-metal elements of late production. Thin metal replaces simplified plastic shapes and adds equipment whose thickness could never come out of a mold. The base kit is sold separately. The target kit is Tamiya.
After an air raid in November 1943 damaged the Berlin factory building assault guns on the Panzer III chassis, a replacement had to be found quickly. The solution was to set the casemate of the assault gun on the chassis of the Panzer IV. That one was longer, so the driver had to get a separate armored cab projecting forward on the left, which is the most striking recognition feature of the whole type. The weapon stayed the same as on its older sibling, that is the long 7.5 cm StuK 40 gun.
Toward the end of the war came wire mesh skirts instead of solid sheets, concrete reinforcement of the front on some machines and simplified fenders. It pays to check differences like these on a model against a period photograph, because individual examples differed from one another more than in the earlier production runs. Before gluing, therefore, try offering the parts up dry and compare them with a photograph of the machine you are building; it will save unsticking them later.
The delivery consists of metal parts; the model, glue and paints have to be obtained separately.
