A set of workable plastic tracks of the T51 type for the American M4 Sherman and M3 Lee tanks in 1:35 scale from AFV Club. It is not a vehicle model but an add-on to an already built kit: the individual links join into a track that stays movable and can be shaped over the road wheels.
The T51 was the oldest type of track on American medium tanks of the Second World War period. Its ground-contact face was a solid rubber block with a smooth surface and no pattern, so the track did no damage to the road and was quiet, while in mud and on wet grass it lost its grip. That is precisely why it was gradually given up for tracks with a pattern and later for steel types. On early Shermans and on M3 Lee tanks, though, the T51 track is typical, and on a model the smooth rubber with no tread gives it away.
Deburr the links carefully and sand the parting lines down. Apply thin cement and only to the designated places, so that it does not run into the joints. Smooth rubber with no pattern is painted differently from a steel track: a very dark gray shade suits it, not black, together with a slight dusting along the sides. Paint the track separately from the hull and seat it last, so that a natural sag can be shaped between the return rollers.
This is an add-on set, not a vehicle model. The base kit, glue and paints are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
