Workshop small items decide whether a scene with a vehicle under repair looks like work or like a display counter. The Royal Model set brings the equipment of a repair workplace in 1:35 scale and completes the space around a tank, a truck or a workbench with it.
Maintenance units worked in wartime and in peacetime alike in makeshift conditions: under a tarpaulin, in a barn, in a requisitioned garage. Around a dismantled vehicle, tools, containers, welding equipment and the remains of parts piled up. It is precisely this disorder that makes a tableau believable, because it tells what had been going on there a moment before. A scene with a repair, moreover, allows a vehicle to be shown opened up, with a hatch swung back, a fender removed or the running gear taken down.
With small objects it holds that saturation is more important than the exact shade. Tools are rewarding to paint with a dark metallic base and then to polish the edges with graphite or a dry brush with silver. Wooden handles will take a warm ocher with a thin brown wash, and oil stains are made with gloss varnish applied with the tip of a brush. Leave a few objects lying crooked, so that they do not come across like goods lined up.
The painting the modeler provides himself.
