This resin figure from the Italian brand Royal Model belongs to the horror range the manufacturer lists under the name Zombies serie. The figure wears a full-body protective coverall, yet its posture and twisted limbs suggest that the protection came too late.
Horror scenes form a distinct offshoot of modeling, one that grew sharply after 2010 along with the popularity of series about contagion. Their charm lies in the fact that the modeler is not bound by any period original: he can build an abandoned gas station, a laboratory behind barbed wire or an armored vehicle barricaded in the middle of a city, and nobody will reproach him for a wrong shade or the wrong type of track. A protective coverall adds a second layer of narrative to that, namely an attempt to prevent what has already happened.
The coverall benefits from a muted base coat into which a lighter shade is dragged dry along the edges of the folds; add the stains and the torn places at the very end with a fine brush. The boundary between cloth and bare skin is worth careful work, because it is exactly there that it is decided whether the figure will come across as repellent or merely comic.
The figure arrives as a bare casting; you will find neither paints nor glue in the package.
