Photo-etched railings for US Navy ships in 1:350 scale from Flyhawk. Thin metal in place of an oversized plastic wall or a bare deck.
Responsibility details are not available.
A set of photo-etched railings in 1:350 scale for models of US Navy ships of the Second World War period. Plastic kits either do not contain railings at all or render them with a wall that is several times thicker in scale than it should be. Thin etch removes that error and the deck gains the right sense of scale at once.
The railings of warships were made of thin stanchions with wires or bars stretched between them. The number of runs and their spacing differed according to the place on the ship as well as the practice of the particular navy, which is why photo-etched sets are made separately for the American, British and other navies. On a model this difference matters as much as the shape of the mast or the gun turrets.
Separate the etch with a sharp knife on a hard surface and never snap it off. Measure the length of the section with a paper strip first and only then cut. Glue it with cyanoacrylate glue in tiny drops applied with a pin, in short sections. Paint only after gluing, by spraying from both sides. Finally check that the railings stand square to the deck.
The set is an accessory for a kit and does not replace one. Paints, glue and the model are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
