About product

Resin AGM-114A/B guided missiles in 1:48 scale

Four missiles as an accessory for the launch rails, not a model of a machine. At this scale a missile is a shape on which everything that does not suit plastic comes together: a long smooth body with a seam along its whole length, thin fins and control surfaces, a nose with the optics of the seeker. A resin casting carries the body in one piece, so you do not have to sand a seam along the whole length and keep the small rings and transitions on the casing at the same time. That is exactly where detail is most often lost on missiles from the box.

The real subject

The AGM-114 Hellfire is an anti-armor guided missile with semi-active laser guidance, used above all from the stub wings of helicopters. The A and B versions belong to the early forms of the family, so the set suits machines in earlier configurations. The missile is hung on launch rails in two-rail and four-rail forms.

What to expect during fitting

The main work is in preparing the surface. The casting block tends to be at the tail or along the body; cut it off with a fine-toothed saw and level the face with progressively finer grits wet, with respiratory protection. Then wash the body and lay down a primer, which on a smooth surface shows at once where you have not finished sanding. Spray the paint on, as brush strokes would stand out on a cylindrical body. Fit the missiles to the rails only once both parts have been painted separately, since you cannot get between them once assembled. They are bonded with super glue, and for hanging them a very short wire pin pays off.

Who the set is for

  • Builders of attack helicopters in 1:48 scale.
  • Modelers building machines with early-version armament.
  • More experienced builders who want a clean surface without a seam.

Hellfire missile sets come in several versions by missile variant and scale, told apart by the exact designation. Compare it with the configuration of the machine you are building.

The set is an accessory for a model, not a standalone kit. The launch rails and the model are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.

FAQ

By the name, four pieces.

The manufacturer carries rails for Hellfire missiles as separate sets.

They are the early form of the Hellfire family. The set therefore suits machines in earlier armament configurations.

Once the casting block is cut off, sand wet with progressively finer grits, wash the part and lay down a primer. That shows any spots left unsanded before painting.
