A resin detail set by the Quickboost brand (Aires, Czech Republic). It is not an airplane kit but a set of replacement parts: the undercarriage covers for a model of the Fairey Barracuda Mk.II in 1:48 scale by Trumpeter. The castings replace the original plastic parts from the kit with a single piece with a markedly thinner profile and a more legible surface inside and out.
On aircraft models the undercarriage covers are among the parts most in view when the model is displayed: a model is usually looked at from the side, and from below the lowered landing gear with open doors is a prominent element. For technological reasons injected plastic has a certain minimum thickness, so the covers look too thick and the edge gives the scale away at a glance. Resin makes it possible to cast a wall a fraction thicker than paper, with a sharp edge and with the structure of the stiffeners on the inside. On the Barracuda, whose landing gear is well exposed thanks to its high-set wing and long legs, this is a change that shows at once.
For modelers who are building the Trumpeter Barracuda Mk.II and want to raise the level of the landing gear without laboriously thinning plastic. Ordinary experience with resin and super glue is assumed.
The accessory is supplied as unpainted resin castings. The base kit, glue and paints are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
