An injection-molded plastic kit of the legendary American two-seat multirole fighter McDonnell Douglas F-4E Phantom II in 1:48 scale from the manufacturer Meng. The modern tooling is richly detailed: it contains photo-etched steel parts, painting masks, a metal pitot tube and a range of movable elements. The flaps and the slats can be fitted in the extended as well as the retracted position, and the horizontal tail surfaces are movable. The package offers several marking schemes.
The F-4 Phantom II is among the most successful jet fighters of the Cold War. The F-4E version got an internal rotary cannon in a lengthened nose, more powerful engines and a modernized radar, which removed the weakness of the older versions without a gun. It served with the American forces and with a number of other air forces and proved itself in combat as a fighter and as an attack aircraft. Power came from a pair of General Electric J79 turbojets with afterburners.
First finish both cockpits and paint the interior; fit the colored photo-etched parts into the cockpit. Think out the position of the flaps and the slats, and fit the metal pitot tube carefully at the very end. Glue the plastic with thin modeling cement and sand the joints of the fuselage and the air intakes carefully. Mask the glazing with the masks supplied; apply the camouflage with an airbrush, bring the panel lines out with a wash and lay the decals over a gloss clear coat.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
