An injection-molded plastic kit of the American fighter Republic P-47D-11RE Thunderbolt in 1:48 scale from MiniArt. It is an earlier sub-version of the type with the classic raised fuselage spine and glazing behind the cockpit, known as the razorback. The package is in the Advanced edition — it contains a photo-etched sheet, a detailed radial engine and open bays: the access panels can be assembled open or closed and the kit allows exposed gun bays with the .50 caliber machine guns. The decal set offers three marking options for aircraft of the 56th Fighter Group, nicknamed Zemke's Wolfpack after their commander Hubert Zemke.
The P-47 Thunderbolt was one of the heaviest single-engined fighters of the Second World War. It was powered by a turbocharged Pratt & Whitney R-2800 Double Wasp radial engine and carried eight .50 caliber machine guns in the wings. The razorback versions with the raised spine were an earlier stage in the development of the type, before the bubble canopy was introduced. The 56th Fighter Group was one of the most successful US Air Force formations in Europe.
Cut the parts off the sprues and glue them with thin modeling cement for plastic; fix the photo-etched parts with cyanoacrylate glue. Paint and pick out the detailed engine and the interior before you close up the airframe. If you want to make use of the exposed panels and gun bays, plan the painting in sections. After the gloss coat and the decals, bring out the panel lines with a wash and add wear to suit frontline service.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
