This is a detail accessory, not an aircraft model. The set from the Czech company Eduard concentrates on the landing gear of the amphibious PBY-5A Catalina flying boat in 1:48 scale. The three-dimensional execution brings fine and faithful detail of the legs and the gear bays that injection-molded plastic can hardly offer.
The Consolidated PBY Catalina was an American long-range maritime patrol and rescue flying boat. The PBY-5A version was amphibious, with retractable wheeled landing gear added so that it could operate from land as well. It is precisely the landing gear that is a clearly visible feature on the model and is worth upgrading.
Separate the parts carefully from the print supports, clean them up and glue them with cyanoacrylate. It pays to pre-shade the finely made legs and bays and to dry-brush them so that their structure stands out.
The set is an accessory, not a complete model. The base kit, glue and paints are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
