American ammunition boxes for ammunition belts in 1:48 scale. An accessory for models of military equipment and for dioramas.
Responsibility details are not available.
Ammunition boxes for belts were part of the kit of every machine gun position, vehicle and aircraft. The American boxes were sheet metal, with a hinged lid and a folding handle so that one could be carried in each hand. The belt was stowed inside folded so that it could be fed straight out of the box during firing. On a diorama this is a small thing, but it says a great deal: boxes scattered around a position, or a neat row on a truck bed, tell you whether the scene is caught at rest or in the middle of a fight.
Boxes in 1:48 scale. How many pieces the package holds, in what rendering, and whether belts come with them, is given by the manufacturer's instructions. At this scale accessories of this kind suit models of vehicles, aviation scenes and figures alike, because a box is an object you can put almost anywhere without it looking out of place.
Choose the glue according to the material of the parts; cyanoacrylate holds on resin and metal. Cut the excess material away a little distance from the part with a sharp blade and sand the rest, then wash and degrease everything before painting. The boxes are usually olive green with lettering on the sides; a scuffed lid edge and a few rubbed spots on the handle bring them to life faster than grubbing the whole thing up. An open box with a belt hanging out can be made up from one of the separately sold ammunition sets.
Paints, glue and tools are not part of the delivery, unless stated otherwise.
