About product

Westland Sea King HC.4 1:48 (Airfix)

Plastic kit of the helicopter in 1:48 scale from the British manufacturer Airfix. It is a modern mold of the British Westland Sea King HC.4 assault and supply helicopter, nicknamed the Commando or the Junglie. The model offers a richly broken-down cabin interior, folding rotor blades and tail boom, the landing gear without sponsons typical of the HC.4 version and a choice of open or closed doors. The box contains clear parts and several marking options.

The real subject

With the Royal Navy the Sea King HC.4 was the assault and supply variant for carrying Royal Marines units, which replaced the Wessex HU.5 helicopters. It differed from the anti-submarine Sea Kings in the omitted side sponsons and in a modified, lengthened cabin space. Machines in the characteristic green finish proved themselves in the Falklands War of 1982, in both Gulf Wars and on missions in the Balkans.

Building and painting tips

Join the parts with liquid cement for plastic. Fit out and paint the cabin interior before you close the fuselage. The rotor blades can be built folded or spread. Protect the cabin glazing with a mask and apply the matte green finish with an airbrush; put the decals on a gloss coat and seal them with a matte one.

Who the model is for

  • For collectors of military helicopters in 1:48 scale.
  • For fans of Royal Navy and Royal Marines equipment.
  • For modelers who will appreciate a folding rotor and a rich interior.
  • As a standout piece for a display case of postwar British equipment.

The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
