An injection-molded plastic kit in 1:72 scale from A&A Models. It captures the American carrier-borne AD-5W version for early warning, with its prominent radar fairing under the fuselage. Besides the plastic, the box contains a photo-etched fret to refine the detail, painting masks and decals for several US Navy marking options. The extras make this a more demanding build for more experienced modelers.
The Douglas A-1 (formerly AD) Skyraider was an extraordinarily tough carrier-borne attack aircraft with a piston engine that served well into the jet era. The AD-5W version was adapted for the airborne early warning role: it carried a bulky radar in a characteristic fairing under the fuselage and an enlarged cabin for the operators. The Skyraider became known for its great load capacity and its ability to loiter over a battlefield.
Fold the photo-etched parts and glue them with super glue (cyanoacrylate), and the plastic parts with cement for plastic. Use the masks supplied to varnish the glazing cleanly. Paint the cockpit and the interior before closing the fuselage. The large radar fairing calls for careful sanding of the joints. For naval schemes, primer and thin coats of paint work well.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories beyond the contents of the box are not part of the delivery, unless stated otherwise.
