A plastic kit of the British Armstrong Whitworth Whitley night bomber in the Mk.V version, in 1:72 scale from Airfix. The model is injection-molded in plastic, has finely engraved surfaces and comes with a decal sheet for British schemes. It is a large twin-engined aircraft with a characteristic nose-down attitude of the fuselage.
The Armstrong Whitworth Whitley was one of the trio of twin-engined medium bombers of the RAF at the start of the Second World War. Despite its modest speed and limited bomb load it formed the backbone of the early night bombing campaign and took part in the first raids over the continent. Later it served with Coastal Command and as a glider tug. The Mk.V version was the most widely built variant of the type.
Assemble the interior and the bomb bay before closing up the fuselage, and fill and sand the long fuselage seams. Mask the glazing and the turrets before spraying. A dark camouflage scheme above and a black underside suit a night bomber; bring out the panel lines with a fine wash. Glue on the engines and the landing gear at the end.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
