HäT 8081 Austro-Hungarian heavy weapons is a 1:72 set with fifty-two figures, machine guns and dog carts of the First World War.
Responsibility details are not available.
A set of plastic figures in 1:72 scale that supplements the ordinary infantry sets with support weapons and their crews. The package contains fifty-two figures in eleven poses, four machine guns and four carts, each with two draft dogs. It is precisely the dog carts that make this set a subject you will not find elsewhere. It is supplied unpainted.
The Austro-Hungarian army used light two-wheeled carts drawn by dogs to move machine guns and ammunition. It was a practical solution for ground a horse could not reach, or where a horse would have been too conspicuous, and a dog could pull a load a soldier would have carried only with difficulty. Machine gun detachments formed the backbone of the defense of a trench line and their crews were therefore a prime target for artillery. The equipment of the soldiers matches the early and middle phase of the war.
The dogs are small and their legs are thin, so separate them with a sharp knife and do not bend them. Assemble and paint the carts before you attach the harness to them, so that you can reach between the wheels. You bring the dogs' coats to life by going over the back with a dry brush in a lighter tone after the base color. Keep the uniforms lighter than reality would suggest; in 1:72 the figures would otherwise merge together.
The figures are supplied unpainted. Paints, glue and bases are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
