An injection-molded plastic kit of the American carrier-borne multirole fighter F/A-18 Hornet in 1:72 scale from Italeri. The package contains clear parts for the cockpit and offers parts for two versions and decals for aircraft of several countries. The model covers the single-seat and two-seat line of the type (C/D).
The McDonnell Douglas F/A-18 Hornet is a twin-engine carrier-borne multirole fighter that combines the role of an air combat fighter with that of an attack aircraft for striking ground targets. It is distinguished by a pair of canted fins, leading-edge root extensions (LERX) and the ability to operate from aircraft carriers. Besides the US Navy and the Marine Corps, the C/D versions were also operated by the air forces of Australia, Canada and Spain.
Glue the plastic with liquid modeling cement and sand the joints carefully. Apply a primer before painting. For the typical navy gray (a low-visibility scheme) an airbrush is ideal; fine modulation of the shades and weathered panels show best with restrained weathering. Apply the colorful decals over a gloss base with a decal softener so that they settle into the engraved lines.
