A set of plastic figures in 1:72 scale with forty-eight figures of the French Young Guard in eight poses. It was one of the most numerous formations of the Napoleonic army and the set covers a whole battalion. The figures are supplied unpainted and are just as usable for a tabletop game as for a display case.
The Imperial Guard was divided into three tiers. The Old Guard was made up of veterans with many campaigns behind them, the Middle Guard stood between them, and the Young Guard was formed from the best conscripts of the year, who reached the Guard by selection straight after being called up. Compared with the line infantry they had better equipment, training and supply; compared with the Old Guard they lacked years of experience. They were committed where fresh and reliable troops were needed, and in the campaign of 1814 a large part of the defense of France rested on them.
With forty-eight figures it pays to work in waves: undercoat the whole batch first, then lay the blue coat and the white trousers down uniformly, and only at the end add the faces, the straps and the colored trim. Red and yellow details need more coats, so leave them for last to keep them clean. A glaze drawn into the folds gives depth without shading every figure individually.
The figures are supplied unpainted. Paints, glue and bases are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
