Metal 2 cm Flak 38 barrels for the Wirbelwind, 1:72

A set of turned metal barrels of the 2 cm anti-aircraft gun for a model of the Wirbelwind anti-aircraft tank in 1:72 scale. It is not a model but a set of replacement parts. The quadruple mount is the most conspicuous thing on the vehicle, and in this small scale the plastic barrels tend to be thick and bent once cut off the sprue.

Building and painting tips

Drill the holes in the mount out to the diameter of the shank so that the barrels sit square and parallel. It is the parallelism that shows most on a quadruple mount, so look at the assembly from the front before the glue sets. It is glued with super glue. Degrease the parts before painting and apply a primer. The barrels of anti-aircraft guns tended to be scorched and scuffed, which can be suggested with dark steel shades at the end.
