A set in 1:72 scale from the brand HäT. The package contains two war elephants with a crew made up of a driver and fighters. The elephants are assembled from parts and are supplied unpainted. The set adds to the Macedonian infantry and cavalry of the same range the weapon that Hellenistic armies deployed as a striking force against close-order formations on foot.
War elephants reached the Greek world after Alexander's campaign into India. In the armies of his successors they became a weapon of prestige and of practical value alike: they could break a line, they frightened horses that were not used to them, and their effect was above all psychological. The defenses against them were sharp obstacles, burning arrows and open lanes in the formation through which the elephant was allowed to pass. Animals that had not been prepared turned in panic against their own army.
Try the parts dry first, with the elephant above all the joint between the howdah and the back, so that it sits level. You will capture the hide with a gray base, a dark glaze into the folds and a dry brush on the edges. Paint the howdah and the covers in strong colors; the contrast with the gray gives the figure its character. Finish the crew separately and seat them last, because there is no working inside the howdah afterwards.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
