About product

Renault R40 with the SA18 gun 1:72 (First to Fight)

An injection-molded plastic kit of the French Renault R40 light tank in 1:72 scale from First to Fight, in the form of a captured Wehrmacht vehicle with the designation Panzerkampfwagen 40R 736(f). The set is usually supplied with a historical booklet. The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted.

The real subject

The Renault R40 was a French light infantry tank, a modernization of the R35 type, armed with a short 37 mm SA18 gun. After the defeat of France in 1940 the Germans captured a great many of these tanks and took them into their own service, hence the German designation and the suffix (f), which marks its French origin. It is an interesting chapter of captured equipment of the Second World War.

Building and painting tips

First to Fight are small 1:72 kits with a quick build, ideal for a collection as well as the basis of a diorama. Assemble and paint the running gear before closing the hull, use liquid cement for plastic and a primer. Choose the color scheme according to the particular service: the original French camouflage or the German captured form, and check the exact period scheme. Build the weathering with a wash into the recesses, dust on the running gear and discreet accenting of the edges.

Who the model is for

  • Collectors of 1939 to 1945 equipment in 1:72 scale
  • Those interested in captured vehicles and French tanks
  • Builders of small dioramas
  • Beginners as well as the advanced, thanks to the quick build

The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
