HäT 1:72 Persian Light Infantry is a generous set of sixty figures of the light infantry of Achaemenid Persia.
Responsibility details are not available.
A set of plastic figures in 1:72 scale from the brand HäT. The package contains sixty figures, more than is usual for the foot sets of this range, because there are fifteen pieces to a sprue instead of twelve. The figures are unpainted and molded in one piece. The set serves as the light element of a Persian formation and complements the heavy infantry and cavalry of the same range.
Persian light infantry was a varied mixture of contingents from across the empire. It fought with the bow, the sling and a light javelin, was protected at most by a wicker shield and wore armor only exceptionally. The so-called sparabara built a wall out of large wicker shields, from behind which the archers showered the enemy with arrows. Against a Greek hoplite in heavy armor this tactic worked at a distance, but in a direct clash the light foot soldiers could not hold their ground.
Wash the figures in lukewarm soapy water, dry them and spray them with a flexible primer. With sixty pieces it pays to work in groups: spray the base colors in bulk and finish only the faces, shields and weapons by hand. Brightly colored trousers and tunics are documented for the Persians of the period, so you can allow yourself richer shades than with the Greek sets. The wicker shields come out with a thin brown glaze over an ocher base.
The figures are supplied unpainted and unassembled. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
